Updated: 5/29/13, 6:03 PM

The Monterey county planning commission approved a project to bring industrial wind turbines to Gonzales Tuesday night.

The venture, between the city of Gonzalez and developer Herbert Myer, proposes the construction of two turbines that could stand nearly 400 feet tall.

The power generated would be used to power the proposed Vista de Santa Lucia Agricultural Business Park in Gonzalez.

A three year monitoring program will be established to assess the impact on wildlife. An amendment was included to allow the construction to surpass the existing 200 foot height limit.
