MONTEREY SUPPORTS NEW TAX 5/2/13 9:00a DMF

IN A SURVEY THAT WENT OUT TO 1,200 RANDOMLY SELECTED HOMES IN MONTEREY RESIDENTS SAID THEY SUPPORT A NEW ONCE CENT SALES TAX BUT DON’T WANT ALVARADO STREET TO BECOME A TWO WAY STREET.    THE CITY RELEASED THE RESULTS OF THE SURVEY WEDNESDAY WHERE 57 PERCENT OF PEOPLE SAID YES TO THE SALES TAX AND 67 PERCENT SAID NO TO THE CHANGE TO ALVARADO STREET.   RESIDENTS RESPONDING TO THE SURVEY LISTED HOUSING (PARTICULARLY HOUSING COSTS AND OPTIONS) AS THE AREAS THE CITY COULD MOST IMPROVE IN.    MONTEREY RECEIVED HIGH MARKS FOR ITS AIR QUALITY AND THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.   THE COMPLETE SURVEY CAN BE READ ONLINE AT WWW.MONTEREY.ORG/COMMUNITYSURVEY.
