PUBLIC SAFETY TAX PROPOSAL 4/25/13 7:00a DMF

 

IN A MEETING TUESDAY THE SALINAS CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSED A NEW TAX PROPOSAL TO HELP FUND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.     ACCORDING TO SALINAS POLICE CHIEF KELLY MCMILLIN, FOLLOWING A 23% BUDGET CUT THE DEPARTMENT IS UNDERSTAFFED AND WOULD NEED 100 MORE OFFICERS AND 58 PATROL CARS TO ADEQUATELY KEEP THE CITY SAFE.  MAYOR JOE GUNTER BACKS THE PROPOSAL AND CITY STAFF HOPES TO HAVE A PLAN ON HOW THAT TAX WILL LOOK DRAWN UP IN THE NEXT 6 TO 8 WEEKS.
