FARM BILL EXTENSION DROPPED – 08/01/12 11:54 S.S.

An attempt to extend the 2008 U.S.D.A. spending authorization for another year has been dropped.     The American Farm Bureau Federation (and others) say the U.S. Senate and House Ag Committees have passed perfectly good pieces of legislation that can be signed into law if it could just get past election year politics.

The latest word is that a drought disaster relief package will be considered TOMORROW (Thursday),  by the U.S. House.      A Farm Bureau spokesperson says it only focuses on helping corn and soybean farmers (along with cattlemen in recovering from the drought) but that everyone else is left high and dry.      Poultry and pork producers,  along with vegetable growers,  get nothing from the aid package.      They note how the disaster relief included in both the Senate and House Ag Committee versions of the Farm Bill is superior to what’s to be considered by House leaders.
