A sparrow found dead recently in the bolsa knolls area of salinas has tested positive for west nile virus.  Officials with the northern salinas valley mosquito abatement district submitted the bird to state authorities for testing.   With the presence of the disease confirmed, health officials plan to trap and test mosquitoes in the area, to try to determine how prevalent west nile is.   West nile virus was last detected in monterey county in 2009.
