Calif: Death penalty repeal qualifies 07/11/12 5p.m. TDH

Supporters of repealing the death penalty in California have qualified the measure for the November ballot.   Dubbed the “Safe california act”, the measure is set to appear on the ballot as proposition-34.  if voters approve the proposition, the death penalty would be banned in the state, replacing such existing (and future sentences) with life-in-prison-without-parole.     California currently has 720-inmates on death row.   In addition to other concerns, Supporters of the measure were largely influenced by the high financial cost of the death penalty, however opponents question how much money would be ultimately saved, if the change is made.
