Simitian Flips on High-Speed Rail 07/09/12 AF

Senator Joe Simitian says he’s just not convinced that the plan he co-authored 10 years ago to build a high-speed rail, is right for California right now.      A vote was held in the senate Friday about whether to go forward with the $69 billion project, and passed by a single vote.   It was thought Simitian’s vote could make or break the project, but to great surprise, the senator gave no vote.   Simitian shares his concerns with a growing number of Californians – increasing costs and uncertain funding have created apprehension around the plan.    Simitian says he hopes his doubts are disproven and that the project will be a success.
