LIBRARY SECURITY INCREASED 6/26/2012 11AM B.B.

A TEAM, COMPRISED OF GILROY POLICE OFFICERS AND LIBRARY STAFF, HAS PROMISED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF TEENAGERS DEFILING THE NEW 34-MILLION-DOLLAR GILROY LIBRARY, PROMISING THE ISSUE WILL BE CONTROLLED BEFORE THE END OF THE SUMMER. PROBLEMS WITH THE TEENAGERS, HAVE RANGED FROM TAGGING THE ELEVATORS TO SKATEBOARDING ON THE SECOND FLOOR. THOSE ACTIVITIES HAVE LED TO LIBRARY STAFF CALLING FOR A CRACKDOWN, BEFORE THE PROBLEMS WORSEN. STARTING THIS WEEK, GILROY POLICE OFFICERS WILL BEGIN RANDOM WALK-THROUGHS OF THE LIBRARY BUILDING, AND A SECURITY CAMERA SYSTEM HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO KEEP TABS ON POTENTIAL MISCREANTS. THE LIBRARY IS NOW ADOPTING A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY FOR MIBEHAVING TEENS; IF SOMEONE IS CAUGHT DISOBEYING THE RULES, THEY WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE LIBRARY.
