GMO Food Labeling 06/13/12 AF

This November, California voters will have the opportunity to pass an initiative unlike any seen in the United States before.     California ballots will include a measure that would require the labeling of genetically altered food sold within the state.   Backers of the measure say that Californians have a fundamental right to be informed about whether the products they consume come from genetically altered organisms.   Though the initiative is garnering support, there is concern from the Department of Finance about significant increases in administrative costs to enforce the measure, as well as additional cost to the courts due to litigation.
