Predictive Policing Software 06/11/12 AF

Santa Cruz city councilman Ryan Coonerty and attorney Caleb Baskin have created a software program based on “predictive policing.”    The program is currently being used by the Santa Cruz Police Department, as well as by the LAPD.    Coonerty and Baskin have already raised 1 million dollars to fund the software named “PredPol.”     The two intend to sell the software with annual subscription rates ranging from 25 thousand to 250 thousand dollars, depending on the population size of the purchasing agency.    The program has garnered nationwide interest, and the Salinas Police Department has already signed up for the software with the hope that it will help them curb gang violence.
