The race for monterey county supervisorial district 5 is headed to a runoff this November, and now 1 candidate has the extra boost of an endorsement from his former opponent. Pacific grove mayor Carmelita Garcia has endorsed marc del piero. Del piero is seeking to unseat incumbent dave potter; the 2 received nearly equal votes in the primary election, with del piero tallying 42-point-7 to potter’s 42-point-3 percent. Garcia received 15-percent of the vote, so her support could prove critical in what is expected to be another close race in November. County supervisors are officially non-partisan offices. the results are still unofficial, but neither candidate is expected to be boosted over the 50-percent mark based on the few remaining ballots to be counted.
