a salinas man was arrested twice in 24 hours for allegedly trying to steal two cars yesterday. just before 3 o’clock yesterday, salinas police received a report that 22 year old steven esquilito allegedly attempted to steal a truck from california towing and transport. the owner of the business caught esquilito trying to drive away. (he had never driven a manual transmission before and was having difficulty shifting). esquilito had just been released from monterey county jail 24 hours earlier on suspicion of another car theft. he was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft and committing a felony while out on bail for a felony.
