the california high speed rail authority and caltrain have come to an agreement to electrify caltrain from san francisco to san jose, but not the route from san jose to gilroy. gilroy and morgan hill were left out of the electrification project because an agreement has been reached between caltrain and union pacific, who owns the railways south of san jose. the electrification of the rails is expected to be completed within a decade.
