A new member has been appointed to the Watsonville city council. 40-year-old city planning commissioner felipe Hernandez has been named to represent district-1. the city council vote on thursday was 5 to zero, (with 2 members absent). Hernandez is a gulf war veteran, and has worked as a labor organizer. He replaces out-going city councilmember manuel bersamin. Bersamin voted for Hernandez to replace him, over the objections of some residents who questioned the practice. Several speakers voiced support for the appointment of Hernandez, including a representative for Assemblyman luis alejo.
