The chief of the Greenfield police department has resigned. Grebmeier will step down in april, but he will remain on paid administrative leave until april of 2013, when his retirement will become official. The chief cited friction with some city council members as one reason for his departure. Grebmeier had opposed a proposal to merge the police departments of Greenfield and soledad, and he objected to hiring an outside firm to audit the police department. City leaders plan to wait until the merger issue is decided, before they look for a replacement.
