a watsonville man was arrested yesterday after a high speed chase in live oak. around noon, santa cruz county sheriff’s deputies spotted a toyota tercel that had been reported stolen from 38th avenue earlier in the day. deputies attempted to pull over the driver but he sped away down portola drive at speeds of 80 miles per hour. when the suspect entered an area near an elementary school on 17th avenue, deputies called off the chase. witnesses reported a man matching the description emptying his pockets and looking suspicious. 23 year old oscar vasquez was arrested on suspicion of felony evasion and other charges. vasquez had outstanding warrants for narcotics violations, and sale of marijuana and methamphetamines.
