a ceremony was held yesterday to remember and honor the 24 homeless people that died in 2011 on local santa cruz streets. the ritual was held at the santa cruz homeless services center on coral street. the names of the deceased were written on tibetan prayer flags. previous years flags are on display in the basement of the county governmental center on ocean street. of the 24, 10 died of overdoses, 2 of cardiovascular disease, 2 of cancer, and several more of other causes.
