a lawsuit has been filed against santa cruz city schools and the city of santa cruz. the parents of a student, who had been hit by a pickup truck in front of mission hill middle school in 2009, allege that school administrators didn’t sufficiently SAFEGUARD king street and the sidewalks. the lawsuit seeks to recover 130-thousand dollars in hospital bills that the student incurred as a result of the accident. a countersuit has been filed by the city and by santa cruz city schools, claiming all negligence and injuries are the fault of the victim. a santa cruz county superior court judge is expected to hear the case on august 5th.
