the monterey county board of supervisors are set to hear a debate on a section of former fort ord at their meeting today. monterey-salinas transit has proposed the construction of a new headquarters on the land. in order to build the transit headquarters or a 15-parcel business park that has also been proposed, as many as 34-hundred coast live oak trees on the property would be cut. hikers, horseback riders and tree lovers want the land left as open space. the board of supervisors is set to consider the proposals at their meeting at 1:30 p.m. today in the county administrative building.
