watsonville city officials have reached a tentative agreement with the police bargaining unit, that will likely avoid layoffs. the police officers association agreed to compensation reductions of 8 furlough days for each of the next two years, and the deferral of a 5-percent raise for two years. also included in the agreement is a 2-tiered retirement plan for employees hired after july 1st. the city council is expected to ratify the agreement at their meeting on tuesday. the city is still bargaining with the fire department.
