over a dozen pink slips were handed out to police officers and firefighters in the city of watsonville, as city administrators face a 1.4 million dollar deficit. 7 police officers, 3 fire captains and 1 firefighter RECEIVED layoff notices, and 1 vacant police officer position was eliminated. city employee unions have agreed to changes in their pension packages, as well as a furlough program. leaders from the firefighters union say that the layoffs could mean taking 2 engines off the street.
