A woman escaped unharmed after her car caught fire this afternoon on the Westside of Santa Cruz. The woman, who was in her 20’s, was driving a 1970s Volkswagen bus at 1:20 p.m. near U.C. Santa Cruz on High Street near Village Circle, when the vehicle’s engine caught fire. The woman was able to angle her car to the corner and exit the vehicle. Fire-crews responded to the scene where they extinguished the fire in about 30-minutes. Traffic, meanwhile, was rerouted to one lane on High Street.
