SALINAS CITY WORKERS BUYOUT PKG. 03-15-11 19:30 a.v.

Salinas officials are considering offering buyout packages to it’s 540 person municipal workforce in an effort to lower costs and avoid layoffs. Salinas City Manager, Artie Fields says the program is a back up plan only, whether layoffs happen or not. The City Council is expected to vote on the incentive program during it’s meeting today. The incentive package would offer 24-months of city-paid health insurance for city employees, and an eligible dependent, or the cash equivalent paid on a monthly basis.
