S.C.DELAYS SURFING SCHOOL/BICYCLING VOTE 02-21-11 a.v.

In an effort to encourage safety measures, Santa Cruz City Council members agreed yesterday to delay several proposals related to surfing schools and bicycling. Recommendations were made to restrict surfing instructors to 8 students in the water at any time, along with suggesting a 4-to-1 teacher to student ratio. Recreation officials are expected to address concerns from surfing school operators before revisiting the ordinance. The council also put off a proposed ordinance that requires cyclists attach a license plate to their bicycle. Bicyclists are required by city regulations to get a $3 license good for up to 3-years.
