S.C.DELAYS SURFING SCHOOL/BICYCLING VOTE 02-21-11 a.v.

Santa Cruz City Council members agreed yesterday to delay several proposals related to surfing schools and bicycling in an effort to increase safety measures. Recommendations were made to restrict surfing instructors to 8 students in the water at any time, along with suggesting a 4-to-1 teacher to student ratio. Recreation officials are expected to set a limit for a vendor, whose contract has been put out for bid, as well as address concerns from surfing school operators before revisiting the ordinance. The council also put off a proposed requirement that bicyclists attach their license number to their front seat. Bicyclists are required by city regulations to get a $3 license good for up to 3-years.
