Scc redevelopment funds 02/16/11 5:45 TDH

Santa Cruz County Supervisors voted unanimously last night to finalize the approval of a 600-million dollar redevelopment agreement.   The move is part of an effort to keep state leaders from taking the redevelopment funds, as Governor Brown has proposed.  While the Governor wants to eliminate local redevelopment agencies state-wide, he has also pledged not to undo any project which has been contracted.   That has left several agencies, including the santa cruz county board of supervisors, scrambling to commit the funds to a series of projects.   County leaders hope to use the money to build a new sheriff’s station, as well as a new Boys & Girls Club facility, and new, affordable housing units.
