A Watsonville man was arrested in Santa Cruz County today after leading CHP officers on a high speed pursuit on Highway-1. 36-year old Hippolito Arenas was stopped on Freedom Boulevard and Highway-1 around 2:30 p.m. when Arenas fled from officers causing a high speed pursuit and search through Aptos High School, where he attempted to evade authorities. The school was placed on lockdown for 30 minutes after Arenas left his vehicle near the school, then ran from officers before he was taken into custody for resisting arrest, 2 counts of vandalism and driving on a suspended license.
