SAL. UNDERAGE DRINKING FINES INCREASE 02-02-11 10:00 a.v.

The Salinas City Council approved a proposed fine increase for underage drinking yesterday. Prior to this week’s unanimous vote, the city of Salinas’s social-host ordinance forbids residents from hosting a “social gathering at their place of residence” where people younger than 21-years of age consuming alcoholic beverages. Those caught with giving alcohol to minors faced misdemeanor charges, fines and possible jail time. The updated ordinance now gives the city of Salinas the ability to impose fines of $500 for the first offense to 1,500 for the 3rd offense.
