An Orange County surfer was in fair condition as of this morning after nearly drowning while surfing at Mavericks over the weekend. Hospital officials say Jacob Trette was in critical condition as of yesterday, but today was conscious and showed stable vital signs that were within normal limits. Trette was found floating face down at around 10 a.m. Saturday after getting caught inside several giant waves while surfing the big-wave spot near Half Moon Bay.
