Settlement, MCO 12/31/10 6:15pm TDH

5-television makers settled a case yesterday, which ends a consumer-protection lawsuit filed several years ago.   The case was brought by Monterey county, along with 6-other counties, which accused the electronics manufacturers of mis-representing the size of their TV screens.   The settlement allows the companies to disclose the size of their screens to within a tenth of an inch.   And the manufacturers have agreed to pay 1.25-million dollars to cover legal penalties and costs, as well as 1.1-million dollars’ worth of televisions for schools and other public institutions.  Monterey county is expected to receive 163-thousand dollars for legal costs, and 28-thousand dollars in penalties.
