A man who allegedly physically assaulted a woman and attempted to sexually assault her in Santa Cruz early this morning, is being sought. Police say the 4 a.m. incident occurred when the 47-year woman encountered the man in the parking lot of a convenience store on the 600 block of Laurel Street. The woman tried to fight the man off after he hit her and dragged her to a trash bin area. Police say the suspect is described as an African American male, up to 5-feet-9-inches tall, weighing up to 180 pounds, with a buzz haircut, a pierced right ear and a tattoo on the right side of his neck. Anyone with information, is asked to call the Santa Cruz Police Department.
