A former Salinas resident was sentenced to 25-years and 4 months in jail for a gang related shooting 4 years ago. On September 16th 2006, Danny Franco was the driver of a vehicle that was involved in a chase with officers after he and another man approached a group of men in a car and fired shots at them. Franco and the passenger of the vehicle, Ivan Leon were being chased by officers after the shooting, when Leon got out of the car and began firing at officers, officers returned fire and killed Leon. Franco was charged with the attempted murder of the individuals in the group and assault with a firearm on a peace officer.
