A fire was extinguished after it broke out just before midnight in eastside Santa Cruz yesterday. Firefighters responded to a moderate amount of smoke coming from a single-story duplex on Caledonia Street and also found a neighbor spraying water from a garden hose in the front door. Officials say the fire began in a sofa or chair. The cause is still under investigation, the home’s occupants were out of town during the time of the incident.
