CHARGES DROPPED IN SAL. OFFICER SHOOTING 12-20-10 13:30 a.v.

Charges were lifted today against a man who was arrested this month for firing gun shots at Salinas officers. 37-year old Juan Anthony Ortiz, was facing 2 counts of attempted murder and related gang crime following an officer involved-shooting in East Salinas on December 11th. Police say Ortiz was a passenger in a car stopped at North Sanborn Road and Laurel Drive, when shots rang out towards officers with the Monterey County Gang Task Force. The driver of the vehicle, 32-year old Nicholas Martinez was hit multiple times and is still recovering. Officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave.
