The Santa Cruz Police Department announced yesterday a new volunteer program designed to increase public engagement. Volunteers of the program, will be trained on tasks including representing the department at community events, keeping maintenance vehicle reports and preparing a mobile command center. Newly sworn in Police Chief, Kevin Vogel says the program, which is a cornerstone of the Revived Community Service division, will be a go-to place for resolving neighborhood dilemmas. Prospective volunteers must submit to a background check and must be 18 years of age.
