S.C. BIDS FOR WORLD SURFING RESERVE 12-10-10 08:00 a.v.

A resolution was approved this week by the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors to designate a part of the coast as a World Surfing Reserve. The designation is said to prompt enhanced environmental protections and distinction for the region. The bid to become a World Surfing Reserve is a coordinated effort among community members. The designation is made by an international panel of surfers, environmentalists and scientists organized by the Save the Waves Coalition. The group is slated to meet next month to consider the county’s bid then.
