A unanimous vote Tuesday in Monterey caused City Council members to switch it’s energy accounts to a provider that brokers electricity supplied by companies that generates power through renewable energy sources to it’s clients. The 2-year contract with Manhattan Beach based 3-Phases Renewables will be providing power through windmills, biomass fuels, geothermal turbines, small hydroelectric dams and solar panels. The 2-year contract is expected to save residents up to $160,000, and reduce gas emissions by 3.2 million tons.
