An inmate, who escaped custody from a Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Deputy last week during a medical transport, is expected to appear in court today. 24-year old felon Maurice Ainsworth attacked and tased the deputy, then took her .40-caliber handgun and fired at a bystander. The escape forced multiple schools in the area along with Dominican Hospital to go on lockdown during the 5-hour man hunt. Ainsworth was caught after barricading himself in a home in the Prospect Heights neighborhood. He faces multiple potential charges of attempted homicide, and already faces a life sentence for 2009 charges related to a Los Gatos home invasion.
