Scientists at U.C. Santa Cruz have announced plans to sequence the genomes of 101 vertebrae within the next 2 years. This plan is the first step in a program to sequence the genomes of 10-thousand species by 2015. The project at U.C. Santa Cruz is part of an international effort, known as Genome 10-K, to gather specimens of thousands of animals from across the world, and unveil the evolution of each species genetic code.
