METHYL IODIDE CONSIDERATION 11-24-10 08:00 a.v.

Next week Watsonville City Council members will consider opposing a state plan to certify the use of a controversial pesticide. Since the fumigant, Methyl Bromide, which has been used in strawberry production is being phased out for it’s ozone-depleting properties, City officials are now considering replacing it with the pesticide methyl iodide. Those opposing the pesticide, say that it has been linked to fetal deformity, miscarriage and thyroid disease in animals. a meeting with council members is slated for next Tuesday November 30th.
