The Santa Cruz City Council is slated to vote tonight on a proposed checklist for evaluating properties after the county’s 1st rental inspection ordinance was approved 3 months ago. The 33-point checklist, recently modified to address concerns from property owners, real estate agents and others, calls for ensuring the safety of both of the exterior and interior condition of rental units. The list includes storage of trash, overgrown vegetation, lighting, weather protection for windows, basic utilities and smoke detectors.
