A rally held at U.C. Santa Cruz yesterday afternoon was in response to a proposed 8% tuition fee increase, which was approved last week. Students, faculty members and staff gathered at Porter College quad around noon protesting the tuition hike, which university officials say is meant to make up for state funding gaps, which is said to remain 10% below levels from 2008-2009. Students say if fees continue to rise, they will not be able to afford a U.C. education. No arrests were made during yesterday’s rally.
