BALLOT COUNT AS OF WEDNESDAY EVENING – 11/04/10 07:14 S.S.

As  of  wednesday  evening,   the  santa  cruz  county  elections  department still  had  about  20  thousand  uncounted  ballots,    while  in  monterey  county that  number  was  about 40  thousand.       The  ballots  that  still  need  to  be  counted  are  the  vote-by-mail  ballots  that  were  turned  in  at  the  polling  places,   or  in-person  after  last  saturday,  the  provisional  ballots,   and  any  ballots  that were  damaged  (and  need  to  be  remade).

The  law  gives  each  election  department  until  november  30th to  certify  the  final  election  results,   so  no  tally   will be  final  until  the  results  are  certified.

Vote-by-mail  ballots  must  have  the signature  on  them  verified,   which  is  why  it  is  critical  for  each  voter  to  sign  the  envelope  as  instructed.
