’08 SALINAS MURDER LAWSUIT SETTLED 10-20-10 07:00 a.v.

A lawsuit filed against the city of Salinas, was settled this week by the mother and husband of a woman who was fatally shot by police officers 2 years ago. City officials announced yesterday that under the terms of the settlement, the city will pay Maria Irma Dela Torre’s mother, Maria Saldago Dela Torre, 1.6 million dollars, while her husband, Jose Maximiano Licea Abarca, will receive $525,000. Dela Torre was fatally shot on July 13th of 2008 after the woman reportedly threatened officers with what was believed to be a knife or ice pick at the time, but turned out to be a crochet hook in her hand instead.
