ARANA GULCH PLANS REJECTED 10-14-10 19:00 a.v.

Plans to add a bicycle path and hiking trails to Santa Cruz’s Arana Gulch was rejected today by the California Coastal Commission. This week’s decision, which follow’s a decade long controversial debate, prevents the city’s longtime bid to build a network of trails and visitor facilites in the 68-acre greenbelt above the Santa Cruz Harbor. The plan was to pave a bicycle path connecting the city with the community of Live Oak. The commissioner’s concern was that the plan did not protect the forest and meadows of Arana Gulch.
