S.C. REJECTS $2 MILLION CLAIM 10-13-10 12:30 a.v.

Santa Cruz City Council members rejected a claim yesterday filed by the mother of a UC Santa Cruz student alleging police are responsible for her son’s death. Beverly Quaye filed a 2-million dollar claim against the city after her son, 21-year old Benjamin Quaye fell and hit his head near railroad tracks in February. Quaye’s claim alleges that the officers who responded to a fight her son was involved in after drinking at a pub near the tracks, should have followed him on foot after noticing that he was “unsteady” on his feet. Councilman, Ryan Coonerty said the city did not counter the claim, and would fight any lawsuit if the case is pursued.
