A Pebble Beach man was arrested at a Monterey Hotel early this morning on suspicion of possessing a destructive device and outstanding warrants. Police responded to a report of a person sleeping in their vehicle at the Travelodge Hotel in the 2,000 block of North Fremont Street just after midnight. A bomb squad was called to the scene around 2 a.m. after a U.S. World War 2 hand grenade was discovered inside the man’s car. As a result, guests staying at the hotel were evacuated, meanwhile 48-year old Joseph Martin Beverding was booked into Monterey County Jail.
