PRELIM HEARING/SALINAS OFFICER 09-17-10 11:40 a.v.
A preliminary hearing is slated today for a Salinas police officer charged with grand theft and financial elder abuse. Sergeant Jay Malispina is accused of committing the crimes against his 70-year old mother over a 4-year period beginning in 2004. Malispina pleaded not guilty to the charges in January. Today’s hearing determines whether there is enough evidence to proceed with a criminal case.
