A petition to extend a quarter-cent sales tax is being generated by a Scott’s valley council woman. Council woman Stephany Aguilar hopes that enough signatures will place the sales tax extension on the ballot early next year, even though the extension was not voted on by Scotts Valley City Council members. Aguilar claims the sales tax extension is the only viable fiscal option the city has regardless of the 2.5 million dollars in general fund reserves. However, Scotts Valley mayor, Jim Reed says asking the citizens of Scotts Valley for a tax extension is irresponsible. He believes there other potential revenue streams as reasons to hold off going to voters.
