Investigations continue into a fatal big rig crash that occurred on Highway 56 yesterday that shut the road down for nearly 4 hours. The accident took place at 2:32 p.m. between San Juan Bautista and Hollister near Bixby Road, when a Toyota pick-up truck drifted over to the other lane and collided into a big rig killing the driver of the Toyota, a 56-year old Atascadero man. The man was pronounced dead at the scene; meanwhile a 2nd person was airlifted to an area hospital. The crash caused roughly 150 gallons of diesel fuel to be spilled on the road. The highway reopened as of 6 p.m.
